En Personne...i will be very surprised if i get any sleep. i am simply too hyped to even consider lying down -even sitting is a chore right now because all i feel like doing is jumping around, dancing and just... celebrating.
why?
because i am a book fanatic and just met three of my favourite authors: Holly Black [Valiant, Tithe, Ironside & The Spiderwick Chronicles], Scott Westerfield [Uglies, Pretties, Specials, Extras, Peeps, Leviathan] and Cassandra Clare [City of Bones, City of Ashes and City of Glass -book 4 is 3/4 done]. They were at Chapters to talk to us about their new books, answer our questions and sign our books.
I had a few questions.
what is your advice to aspiring authors?
CC: Read. you can't be an author if you don't like to read... just like you can not be a musician if you do not like music.
HB: just keep writing.
SW: the first million words you write will be crap, so get them out of the way now!
what, in your experience, is the best way to get over WB?
CC: go to a villa in mexico! *laughs* Just keep pounding away at it, writer's block is thinking that what you're writing isn't good enough, so if you just keep writing anyway, you'll get over it.
HB: when i get writer's block it is usually because i've done something wrong somewhere. so i retrace my steps and fix my wrong turn.
SW: bouncing your ideas off of someone always helps. getting their input and feedback is really hepful.
i also asked about music they listen to while working, SW doesn't listen to anything at home, but when he is at a café he listens to things he's never head before. HB listens to the same playlist over and over and over again.
Can we expect more Modern Faerie Tales? [for holly]
i didn't get a definite answer here. she is working on another series at the moment, but is going back and writing a short story from that world... so, maybe?
Why do you add 'wa' and 'la' to the end of the character's names during the dialogue in pretties? [for Scott]
he wanted to use the japanese style of... naming? they have different prefixes depending on their relationship with the person and he wanted to use something like that.
any news on the city of bones movie? [for cassandra]
not really, it is a long process and... yeah -check her website
uglies might be made into a movie ^^
all in all, absolutly awesome time. much more happened and i have much more information, but it will just take much too long to read. so if you have questions, ask away! [hopefully ill have answers]
